Marina Jones

Marina Jones, Girls Cross Country Assistant Coach

Marina Jones was born in NYC, moved to California at age 12 and graduated from Lakewood HS. In 1973, she moved to Minneapolis, MN and started her flying career as a Flight Attendant. Her son was born in 1980 and in those days you had to get back in shape to fly again so she started running in 1981 and hasn't stopped since. She had never been very athletic, but in 1982, she ran her first marathon, in Duluth, MN.

During her running "Career", she made many goals, all of which she was able to accomplish, such as qualifying for the Boston Marathon, qualifying for The Olympic Trails Marathon in both 1996 and 2000, and winning the National Championship Marathon in 2000. She also won marathons in 1986 and 1999. In total, she ran 50 marathons under 3 hrs. She also plans to run her 98th Marathon in Santa Rosa, CA in August, her 99th marathon in DCA in October, and 100th in early 2018 in OC.

She is also proud of her son who ran for Capo in 1995 during his Freshman and Sophomore year when Marina was an assistant coach for Ken Sayles over a 6 year span. He then got married 2 years ago and lives in Mission Viejo. He is currently training with Marina to do his first marathon at Marine Corp in DCA in Oct.

In 2000, Marina and her husband moved to Palm Desert. He retired from 747 Captain in 2001 and Marina retired in 2007. They still like to travel and have been to all 7 Continents.

Recently, Marina returned to coaching with Ken 4 years ago. It is a passion she enjoys especially sharing her love of running with these extraordinary High School Girls. Her goals for the girls are to learn to love the sport, work on goals you would like to accomplish and to just have fun. She looks forward to the 2017 XC season as these girls keep her young!
