DHI Course Map
  • Course:  This is one of the fastest races that will be run this season. The course is "net downhill", and is a fairly easy one to run. Nevertheless, the competition is steep.
  • Transportation:  No bus transportation. Athletes need to arrive by 7:00 am

We will meet in the top bleachers on the home side of the football stadium (the far side from the parking lot).
  • Arrival/Parking Info: Be sure to allow plenty of time to arrive at Dana Hills High School, located at the corner of Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive, since there are a lot of athletes and spectators for this event, and the parking is somewhat limited. If you cannot park in one of the school lots, plan to park in one of the neighborhoods across Acapulco or Golden Lantern for easiest access to the school.
  • Snacks/Concessions: Snacks and water are provided by the boosters. There are also concession stands, and commemorative T-shirts are sold. As always, they tend to sell out of T-shirts, so buy early.
  • Viewing Races:  This is not the easiest course in which to view the runners, although it is the easiest one at which to see the finish. The finish line is in the stadium, so there is plenty of seating.
  • Medals/Awards:  Medals are awarded to the top fifty runners in each race.

  • Course:  There are three miles, two moderate hills, 330 yards of grass and 330 yards of dirt with the rest blacktop.
  • About League Clusters:  This is the boys first league meet of the season. The cluster meets will involve all of the league athletes, but will only score our runners against two other teams at a time.
  • Arrival/Parking:  There is a parking fee of $3 per vehicle on weekdays; $5 on weekends. Correct change is required. Plan to arrive at the park early. While there is plenty of parking, it is spread all over this 477-acre park. The meet takes place towards the east side of the park - just follow all the other cars to the right from the entrance.
  • About League Finals:  This is the second half of the formula for determining qualifiers to CIF and League Champions. The results of this race are combined with the standings from the dual meets. Ties are broken by the best finisher in this race.
The top three varsity teams and the top three individuals, if not a part of a qualifying team, advance to CIF prelims. Extra teams from our league are offered "at large" slots in CIF since the competition in this league is so fierce and quality is so high.
  • Note:  No team snacks are provided at these events, so be sure your athlete brings snacks, lots of water, and sun protection.  The weather can be very hot during these races, and they will be there during the hottest part of the day (from approx. 11:00 AM until 5:30 PM).

  • Course:  The three-mile course has two moderate hills, a good stretch of grass, dirt, which often turns to mud, and some very fast blacktop at the end of the course for added excitement! There are many places along the course to view the runners.
  • Arrival/Parking:  Irvine Regional Park opens at 6:00 AM.  Plan to arrive at the park before 7:00 AM, as this meet attracts LOTS of teams and spectators, and there is only one entrance to the park. Plan on long lines to enter the park even if you are arriving early.  Park entry fee is $5 a car and correct change is required.  You might have to walk a long distance from where you park to the meet area within the park.  There is no street side parking, tickets will be issued.  Shopping centers will tow!  Buses will be allowed to park in the park but only in park ranger designated parking areas.  Please do not block the entry by dropping off before you get to the designated parking area.
  • Overflow parking is available at Santiago Canyon College, 3045 E. Chapman Ave, Orange. The college is located at the corner of Chapman and Newport; please park only in Lot 1 off Newport Ave, there will be signage directing you to parking Lot No. 1.  The college is charging a $2.00 parking fee, parking permits can purchased from dispensers at the parking lot, please bring correct change.  The dispensers do not give change.

Remember to leave enough time to enter the park and make it to your races on time. It's approx. 1/2 mile from the college to the park entrance and another 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the meet area.  Many people bring bikes in their cars, park at the college, and bike into the park.
  • Snacks/Concessions:  The boosters provide snacks and water for this meet, and concession stands are available, as well. The requisite commemorative T-shirts will be sold, and, as always, usually sell out.
  • About OCC:  Orange County Championships is the only all-Orange County cross country meet! Who is the best in the county? Come to this meet to find out!  Perhaps nowhere else in the USA is a mid-season meet more competitive with many state and even nationally ranked teams competing. Virtually all of the Top Ten teams, boys and girls, will be eventual State Meet competitors and many future State Champion teams will be competing today. Though it is not a League Meet, it is a very prestigious meet that gets lots of positive press for our teams.
  • Awards:  The top two teams and top 40 individuals for each race will receive medals. In addition, the top seven runners in each grade will receive special "All County" awards. The girls usually compete in the Sweepstakes category, and the rest of the runners run according to their varsity classification according to the "Large School."

  • Course:  This three mile course is anything but easy. The very mention of this course generates trepidation in the hearts of all who have run it. Switchbacks, Reservoir Hill and Poop-Out Hill are the names of hills that have become legends. An entire day-and-a-half is devoted to high school students, with races starting every seven minutes. This is the course of champions!
  • About Mt. SAC:  Mt. SAC is the most famous high school cross country race in US and the largest in the world!  This is the Mecca for high school cross country for over 60 years.  This historic course is used for CIF prelims and Finals, thus the importance of running well here and learning its mysteries.
  • Parking:  Parking is across Temple Avenue from the North side of the stadium, and there is a fair distance--about a mile--to walk to get to the event.  Be sure to give yourself extra time to get from the parking area to the race.
  • Admission and Parking Prices:  Admission Prices: $7 per adult (14 and older); $5 for seniors (60 yrs. of age or better); $5 High School students (must show proof/ID); $2 children (5-13 years of age). Parking is $5; preferred parking is $10.  Cash or check only for admission (cash only for parking).  No credit cards or ATM cards accepted. An ATM machine is available in front of the admissions ticket booth.
  • Viewing:  Viewing is a little easier than some courses, since the runners cross the same central area several times. Also, if your athlete is towards the front of the pack, you can see him or her finish without crowding around the finish line, using the large Jumbotron displayed in the spectator area. The difficulty in seeing your runner is in figuring out in which race they will run, since there are often three or four races per class, per division.
  • Snacks/Concessions:  Water and snacks are usually provided for the athletes, and many concession stands are also available. Not only are T-shirts available, but almost every other type of commemorative trinket imaginable! Despite the late date, it tends to be quite warm (okay, hot!) at this course as the day progresses, and there is not a great deal of shade, so spectators should dress accordingly.
